Now that March is here and village coaches are getting ready to start their spring seasons, this is a reminder that the recreation department's fields are not yet open for practices or games. The department will notify all program heads when the fields are ready for play. Please do not use the fields until further notice.
With the spring sports season upon us, the recreation department would like residents to know that, although the recreation department allows the various volunteer organizations to use the village field space, it does not run any of the spring programs. Below is a list of program heads for each sport. Call them in the event of any questions.

The recreation department's tennis staff offered an open house of the junior round robin tennis program March 4 at Community Park's tennis facility. The department's round robin tennis program is a Junior League Intraclub Program for children ages 9-18. This program offers competitive match play formatted to fit each child's playing level.
The league is organized by age and playing ability. Interested children must be able to serve for the baseline, sustain a slow paced rally, keep score unassisted and have an understanding of the rules of tennis.
This program will be minimally supervised during match play. Teaching staff will set up the matches. All matches will be held on Sundays between 2-4 p.m. The league will begin Sunday, March11. If you choose to participate in this league, the cost of the eight-week program will be $130.
The recreation department will begin its third sessions of preschool arts and crafts this week. This six-week program is held at St. Paul's Cluett Hall and is open to children ages 3-and-a-half to 5 years old who reside in Garden City.

The child registering must be three-and-a-half by March 7 in order to register for a session. To register, visit the recreation office in village hall.
