Franklin Avenue Manhole Fire Leaves Some Businesses Without Power
LIPA was notified at 7:30 a.m. According to its spokesperson, electric circuits went on fire and no injuries were reported. Initially, 400 customers lost power because of the incident. Almost 300 customers were returned within an hour while the remaining 100 were scattered over the course of the next several hours. Three or four separate Franklin Avenue businesses had to take the longest hit, losing business on Feb. 9. They have however, been on generators since Feb. 9 and still were as of press time.

Garden City Boys' Fencing Team Wins County Championship
Garden City earned the top seed in the four-team tournament with a record of 10-0 for the regular season. After defeating fourth-seeded Great Neck South 14-8, they went on to beat Jericho in a thrilling match. The Garden City team has great depth with 29 fencers. With only three seniors graduating they should be a formidable force in future seasons.

Registrations are still being accepted for the Centennial Spring Soccer Program. Register by visiting www.gccentennialsoccer.org and select the "online intramural registration" link. Registrations received after Jan. 31 are now accepted based on space and availability and are subject to a $25 late fee.
