This Sunday, Feb. 11, at 1 p.m. the ever-popular Magician Bill White will visit Cluett hall with Magic the Dog. This incomparable duo will perform amazing feats of magic to charm and thrill the audience. Magic the Dog has appeared on The View and Animal Planet. Admission for this show is $2, payable at the door. Reservations are necessary and can be made by calling the recreation office at 465-4075.

On Sunday afternoons, the St. Paul's Field House is open for family fun for village families. This open time provides the opportunity for families to enjoy various gym activities in an indoor environment. The gym is available for use from noon to 3:30 p.m. each Sunday now through March.

This time is designated for residents to use on a family or individual basis. No organized practices or workouts will be allowed. Although there will be staff to monitor activity, this is not a drop-off program. The recreation department asks that an adult accompany all elementary-aged children. For the safety of the users, no lacrosse or baseball is allowed.

The recreation department is sponsoring middle school recreation nights on the following remaining dates at St. Paul's Field House:

Friday, Feb. 9 Grade 6

Friday, March 2 Grades 7-8

These parties will be chaperoned by recreation staff and will run from 7 to 9 p.m. Admission is $5. A DJ will provide music and refreshments will be available for a nominal charge. The gym will be open for basketball, volleyball, dancing and other games. Note - once the children are in the facility for these programs, they will not be allowed to leave unless accompanied by an adult. Please come into the building to pick up your child.

Due to popular demand, the recreation department is again offering an adult pastel class taught by Arleen Ruth Urban. This class is open to adult residents of Garden City. The class runs from 9 to 11:30 a.m. on Fridays. The classes are held in Cluett Hall at St. Paul's. The cost of the 10-week program will be $105.

This 10-week program teaches the beginner as well as advanced student the art of painting portraits and landscapes/still life in pastels from photographs. Students are given the option of dividing each three-hour session between portrait/landscape or they may concentrate solely on the subject of their choice.

Demonstrations are available as needed throughout the program. Each student receives the individual attention required to work at his/her own pace and level of expertise.

Arleen Ruth Urban is a signature member of the Pastel Society of America. A winner of numerous awards, her commissioned portraits hang in many Garden City homes.

The recreation department's second session of adult dance classes, taught by Felicia Lovaglio, began the week of Jan. 22. This program is open to adults who live in Garden City. The following classes are offered:

Tuesdays at 9:30 a.m.

Stretch and Tone

Wednesdays at 9:45 a.m.

Ballet

Thursdays at 9:30 a.m.

Stretch and Tone

Saturdays at 11 a.m.

Jazz

The cost of each 15-week session is $120. To register for these programs, visit the recreation office in village hall. For further information, call 465-4075.

The recreation department is pleased to announce that this winter, Rich Anderson and the recreation staff are conducting a gym program for children in kindergarten through grade two. This program consists of organized games and activities in a supervised setting. This program runs Tuesdays from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in the St. Paul's Field House now through Feb. 13. The program is free and no registration is necessary. Sneakers must be worn for any activity in the Field House.

Please note that once children are in the facility, they will not be allowed to leave unless accompanied by an adult. The recreation department expects all children at this age to be walked into the Field House by an adult. For further information, contact the recreation office at 465-4075.

On Wednesdays and Thursdays in February, the Field House will be open and supervised from 3:30 to 5:45 p.m. for students of middle and high school age to use for basketball. In addition, volleyball will be offered on Thursdays for the same age groups. The games are strictly pickup; no organized practices are allowed. This time is for middle and high school youngsters to enjoy games and socializing. Recreation staff will supervise the Field House; no parents will be allowed in the Field House during this time. The recreation department's adult swim program resumed at Adelphi's indoor pool located in Woodruff Hall, Jan. 8. This free program is open to any adult resident of the village, ages 18 or older. The recreation adult programs in the Field House take place according to the following schedule:
Mondays Men's Open Basketball 7:30-10 p.m.
Men's Over-40 Basketball 7:30-10 p.m.
Tuesdays Men's Over-30 Basketball 7:30-10 p.m.
Wednesdays Men's Open Basketball 7:30-10 p.m.
Men's Over-40 Basketball 7:30-10 p.m.
Thursdays Adult Volleyball 7:30-10 p.m.
Adult Soccer 8:30-10 p.m.
These programs are open to residents of the village who have graduated from high school. All programs listed are free of charge and strictly "pickup." A picture ID is required to sign in to any program. For further information, contact the recreation office at 465-4075.

Aerobic classes are held in St. Paul's Cluett Hall according to the following schedule:

Mondays at 8:15 a.m. taught by Pat Kennedy

Wednesdays at 8:15 a.m. taught by Pat Kennedy

Thursdays at 7 p.m. taught by Joy Cody

Sundays at 6:45 p.m. taught by Joy Cody

Instructors are up-to-date on the latest moves to keep you interested while exercising. Pat and Joy have years of experience and can show the individual how to modify the exercises to their levels. To attend a single class, show up on the given day and pay $4. To attend regularly, 20 class passes can be purchased for $60, a savings of $1 per class. Garden City Recreation started its second session of its youth platform tennis program Friday, Jan. 26, held at the platform courts at Garden City Community Park.

This five-week program is open to any child in Grades 6-12 who lives in Garden City. The cost of the program is $100. The schedule is as follows:

Grades 9-12 Fridays 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Grades 6-8 Fridays 7:30 to 9 p.m.
