Assemblyman Tom McKevitt commented on Governor Spitzer's first State of the State address.

"Governor Spitzer has outlined an aggressive agenda that, if enacted, will provide overwhelming change and hope for New York's future," McKevitt remarked. "I commend Governor Spitzer's commitment to advancing comprehensive property tax reform, an issue vital to Long Island's hard-working families and seniors."

In his State of the State address, Governor Spitzer presented a three-year, $6 billion property tax relief proposal along with various other proposals aimed at revitalizing the state economy and reforming state government.

Additional key proposals advanced in the State of the State include: increased use of technology in schools throughout the state; new standards for higher education with the establishment of the Commission on Public Higher Education; and health care reform with a focus on affordability and increased access.

"As we move forward from today, I look forward to working with Governor Spitzer and my colleagues in the State Legislature in enacting bi-partisan reforms aimed at making government work for all and providing a better day for all New Yorkers," McKevitt said.

McKevitt also announced his appointment as Ranking Member of the Assembly Mental Health Committee. In this role, McKevitt will help shape policies affecting the state's mental health agenda and help debate on these issues in the legislature.
