The Garden City Chamber of Commerce's Shop Window Competition, a 28-year tradition, began following the "energy crunch" of the late '70s to encourage renewed interest in decorating the business districts and to attract shoppers for the holiday season.

Best of Show for 2006 is diSalvo Interiors. Additionally, the chamber is pleased to announce the top 10 winners in the central business district. They are: Anne Hagen's Village Realty of G.C., Barbatsuly Furs, Culinary Heights, Feldis Florist, Green Barn Country Store, Joseph & Joseph, The Pear Tree, SL Enterprise of NY, West & Stannish Opticians and You-Nique Bow-Tique.

Also, of Garden City's 26 restaurants, the three judged to be the most beautifully decorated are Leo's, Seventh Street Cafe and B.K. Sweeney's Uptown Grille. One winner from New Hyde Park Road will also be acknowledged.

The chamber thanks the judges who walked Franklin Avenue and Seventh Street to make their determinations. They were Suzie Alvey, professional artist, and Dan Karas, president of the Central Property Owners' Association (CPOA). Additional thanks to Seventh Street Cafe for providing refreshments for the judges while they made their deliberations. Photos of the winners will appear in an upcoming issue.
