Winthrop-University Hospital recently applauded the selfless devotion of its many volunteers and Auxiliary members at a luncheon that featured the 82nd Annual Meeting of the Winthrop Auxiliary and the Volunteer Service Awards Ceremony. The event was a celebration of the men and women who have donated thousands of hours of time, compassion and energy to help make Winthrop a warm and welcoming place of healing for the Long Island community.

Hailed by Hospital President and CEO Daniel P. Walsh as integral members of the Winthrop family, the volunteers and Auxilians were praised for their dedication and commitment to the Hospital and its patients. "Your generosity of spirit is an inspiration to the entire Winthrop team," he said.

More than 150 volunteers were awarded pins and certificates of recognition for achieving milestones in their completed hours of service ranging from 100 through 35,500. They serve in many areas of the hospital, such as the Emergency Department, Child Life, Patient Relations and Admitting, and play a vital role in the daily lives of patients, visitors and staff.

The Auxilians, who support Winthrop through their goodwill and fundraising, were thanked by Charles M. Strain, Esq., chairman of the board, as he presided over the Installation of the Auxiliary Officers, all Garden City residents: Ronnie Renken, president; Lois Tighe, vice president; and Margaret Musil, parliamentarian. Barbara Seale, historian, was unable to attend.

"Volunteer of the Year" awards went to Ann Kutch (Garden City) for her work with Winthrop Pediatrics' "Reach Out and Read" program, and Michael Cararelli (Mineola) for his dedicated service in aiding staff members in Central Supply.

Debra Weber of Garden City was awarded "Auxilian of the Year" for her unwavering commitment to fundraising on behalf of the hospital.

Members of the Winthrop-University Hospital Auxiliary and Volunteer Services are deeply appreciated by Winthrop's board of directors, administration and staff for their outstanding contributions to the hospital.
