During the evenings of Oct. 3 and 4, the surface of the parking field was milled and a binder coat was applied. On Tuesday evening, Oct. 11, weather permitting, the contractor was expected to apply the final surface paving material. The entire parking field was closed to all vehicles on Tuesday evening from 6 p.m. until 6 a.m. Wednesday morning.
On Sept 28 the village board of trustees conducted a special meeting in order to hold a public hearing required in conjunction with the village's grant application to the Empire State Development Corporation for the Historic Main Building at St. Paul's under the Restore New York Communities Initiative. The specific purpose of the hearing was to hear resident objections to including this site on the application property assessment list. There were no negative comments and the Committee to Save St. Paul's communicated about the wisdom of the grant application.
The annual observance of Fire Prevention Week in Garden City will take place now through Oct. 14. All residents and friends are invited to attend the Annual Inspection and Open House Sunday, Oct. 15, at noon. The program will be conducted at Fire Headquarters and in the employees' parking field, located on the west side of Village Hall on Stewart Avenue.
