Homicide Squad detectives report a serious motor vehicle accident that occurred in Island Park July 30 at 9:25 p.m.

Detectives report that a 2001 Lexus sedan operated by Eric Feltes, 23, of Island Park, southbound on Austin Boulevard struck a pedestrian, Michael Miranda, 31, of Garden City, crossing Austin Boulevard from east to west at Emerson Place. Police state Miranda was crossing against the traffic signal light prior to being struck.

Nassau County Police Department Ambulance 2354 transported Miranda, who suffered serious head injuries, internal injuries and trauma, to South Nassau Communities Hospital. Miranda was pronounced dead at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 1.

The Highway Patrol Bureau responded and performed brake and safety checks on the Lexus and then released the Lexus to Feltes. There were no summonses issued and no charges filed.
