The recreation department is holding summer recreation nights for children entering Grades 8-12 on Tuesday evenings. The Field House will be open from 7:30-10 p.m. to play basketball and volleyball and musical entertainment will be provided. Any child who resides in Garden City is invited to participate. Recreation staff will provide supervision. This program will continue through Tuesday, Aug. 15.

The recreation department is offering a one-week youth theater clinic for children who are Garden City residents entering Grades 1-6 at Cluett Hall. This clinic will be held according to the following schedule:

• August 14-17, 10 to 11 a.m.

• August 21-24, 10 to 11 a.m.

The cost of the clinic will be $50. To register for either week of this clinic, visit the recreation office in village hall.

The recreation department's resident yoga instructor, Connie McKnight, will be offering a one-week yoga mini camp for children who are Garden City residents in Grades 1 and up according to the following schedule:

• August 14-17, 11 a.m. to noon

• August 21-24, 11 a.m. to noon

The cost of each week of the mini camp will be $50. To register for this program, visit the recreation office in village hall.

Garden City Recreation Department's Chess Club has begun. If you have a child in Grades 3-8 who enjoys chess or would like to learn the game, then this is the program for you. The club meets in the Garden City Library's small meeting room Tuesday afternoons from 4-6 p.m. This is a free program under the direction of Paul Dooher.

The recreation department is offering trips to Adventureland in Farmingdale through neighborhood parks. Recreation staff supervise these trips, which take place on the following remaining dates:

• Friday, Aug. 4, Grove Park

The trip will leave from the park at 11 a.m. and will arrive at Adventureland around noon. The children will enjoy three hours of unlimited rides and will depart Adeventureland at 3 p.m.

The recreation department bus will provide transportation and park staff will provide supervision. The cost of this trip is $18 per child. This trip must be paid in cash only; no checks will be accepted. To register, visit the park whose trip you would like to join one week before that trip. The recreation department is proud to once again offer a roller hockey program this fall for residents of Garden City. The fall program includes a league for ages 7-14 and a "learn and play" session for ages 5-6. Applications are available for both programs at village hall. Registration officially began July 17. Please see information below regarding specifics on each program:

Learn & Play Program

Eight-week program for ages 5-6. Session 1 is Sundays from noon to 1 pm. and Session 2 is Sundays from 1:30-2:30 p.m. The start date is Sept. 10 at the Garden City Community Park roller hockey rinks for $60. Be advised that there are only 25 spots available in each session.

Roller Hockey League

All games are played on Fridays according to the following schedule:

• Mites Division, Ages 7-8, Games at 4 p.m.

• Junior Division, Ages 9-10, Games at 5:45 p.m.

• Intermediate Division, Ages 11-14, Games at 7:30 p.m.

League play begins Friday, Sept. 8 at Garden City Community Park roller hockey rinks. The season includes seven weeks of regular season match-ups, an All-Star game and one round of playoffs, the Garden City Recreation championship game and the end of the season awards celebration. Price is $60. Required equipment includes a helmet with cage, gloves, shin pads, elbow pads, a hockey stick, roller blades and a cup.

The recreation department's Dance Company is offering several adult classes during the summer months. The following classes are being offered:

• Adult Stretch and Tone, Tuesdays at 9:15 a.m.

• Jazz, Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m.

• Adult Stretch and Tone, Thursdays at 9:15 a.m.

All classes run one hour. All sessions began the week of July 11. Each six-week class costs $48. To register, visit the recreation office in village hall.

The Garden City Recreation Department is pleased to announce its summer calendar of concerts at the gazebo on Stewart Avenue. This year's remaining performances include:

• Aug. 3, The Village Music Makers

• Aug. 10, The Chaperones

• Aug. 17, Frankie Lymon's Legendary Teenagers

Bring a lawn chair and enjoy. Concert time is 7:15 p.m. In case of inclement weather, the concerts will be moved indoors to St. Paul's Cluett Hall on Stewart Avenue.

St. Paul's Field House is now open for men's basketball on Wednesdays from 7-10 p.m. The format is strictly pickup and is open to any village resident aged 18 or over. This program will run until Aug. 19. The recreation department's adult volleyball program changes venues in the summer and moves to Community Park. If you are a village adult resident who enjoys volleyball, come and join in the fun on Thursday evenings from 7-10 p.m.

The Garden City Recreation Department is pleased to offer a summer session of its very popular yoga classes, which are directed by Connie McKnight. These classes are offered weekly beginning this week according to the following schedule:

• Adult Yoga, Mondays, 10 to 11 a.m., Senior Recreation Center

• Yoga Over 50, Mondays, 11 to noon, Senior Recreation Center

• Yoga Over 50, Wednesday, 9 to 10 a.m., St. Paul's Cluett Hall

• Adult Yoga, Thursdays, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., Senior Recreation Center

Any Garden City resident may register for these classes. Each session will run for five weeks at a cost of $25 (one class per week). Residents may register for more than one class per week if they like. To register, visit the recreation office in village hall.

The recreation department, in conjunction with the New York State Recreation and Parks Society, is offering discounted tickets to various amusement parks in the tri-state area. These tickets are good for the summer 2006 season. Here is a list of what is available:

Tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis and must be paid for in cash. To purchase any of these tickets, visit the recreation office in village hall.

The recreation department will conduct a preschool camp for girls and boys 3 1/2 - 5 years old who reside in Garden City. Children who attend this camp must be 3 1/2 years by the start of the session. This camp will be held at the St. Paul's Cluett Hall from 10:30 a.m. to noon. The cost of each session will be $75. Arts and crafts, music, nature and stories will fill the one and a half-hour class. The remaining sessions are as follows:

• Session IV, July 31-Aug. 4

• Session V, Aug. 7-11

A copy of the child's birth certificate must accompany the registration. Please make selections carefully as fees are not returnable. Register by mail. The recreation department cannot be held responsible for delays in the mail. To register, pick up an application at the recreation office in village hall. One can also make their own by listing their child's name, address, phone number, birth date and the sessions or classes for which they are registering. Mail all information with full payment to the Garden City Recreation Department at 351 Stewart Avenue. Please make all checks payable to the "Inc. Village of Garden City."
