The Garden City Recreation Department is pleased to announce its summer calendar of concerts at the gazebo on Stewart Avenue. This year's performances will include:

The recreation department, in conjunction with the New York State Recreation and Parks Society, is offering discounted tickets to various amusement parks in the tri-state area. These tickets are good for the summer 2006 season. Here is a list of what is available:

The recreation department will sponsor two noontime concerts this month on Seventh Street. These concerts will be held this Friday, June 16, and Friday, June 23, and will feature various styles of music for residents to enjoy. The concerts will take place on the plaza in front of Chico's on Seventh Street and will begin at noon. Bring lunch and enjoy the entertainment!
There is still space available in the second and third sessions of the recreation department's summer adult tennis lesson program. All classes are held in the evenings. The second session of lessons will run from July 10-Aug. 1 and the third session will run in August. The cost of a four-week set of lessons is $80. The recreation department will be conducting a youth basketball camp for boys and girls who reside in Garden City June 26-29. The camp will be held in the St. Paul's Field House under the direction of Pat Kennedy.
An instructional camp will be offered for boys and girls entering grades three and four in September 2006 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. and a session for boys and girls entering grades five and six in September 2006 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be a limit of 50 children for each session.
The purpose of this program is to provide instruction in self-improvement, basketball fundamentals, team play, group cooperation and most important, fun. The cost of this camp is $60, which includes a T-shirt.

The Garden City Recreation Department will be conducting a youth soccer camp for boys and girls who reside in Garden City during the weeks of July 31-Aug. 3 and Aug. 7-10 at Community Park (behind the Garden City Pool).
This instructional program will be offered for boys and girls ages 6-12. Youngsters must be 6 years old by the start of the camp and entering first grade in September 2006 in order to register. Proof of age will be required.
The two-hour session will run from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at a cost of $60 and will focus on individual skill development. The five-hour session will run from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at a cost of $130. The five-hour session will include an hour lunch break and swim session supervised by soccer camp staff, to be followed by full field games.

The recreation department will be running an instructional lacrosse program for boys and girls entering Grades 3-6 in September 2006. Here is an opportunity for youngsters, who reside in Garden City, to learn this fast, exciting sport.
The program will teach the basic techniques of catching, throwing and scooping and then move on to drills and the rules of the game. All necessary equipment will be provided and no experience is necessary.
The program will be run by Wally Cook, who has years of experience in lacrosse. The group will meet on weekday mornings at Stewart Field. The camp will run from 9:30 a.m. to noon each day according to the following schedule:
July 5-7 (Wednesday-Friday) Cost $60
July 10-13 (Monday-Thursday) Cost $75

The recreation department will conduct a preschool camp for girls and boys 3 1/2-5 years old who reside in Garden City. Children who attend this camp must be 3 1/2 years by the start of the session. This camp will be held at the St. Paul's Cluett Hall from 10:30 a.m. to noon. The cost of each session will be $75. Arts and crafts, music, nature and stories will fill the one and a half-hour class. The fee for the league will be $500, which covers umpire fees and balls. Applications will not be accepted without a completed roster, a copy of each player's current driver's license and a check to cover the league fee. Application packages may be picked up in village hall. The league will begin the week of June 26.

Call the recreation office at 465-4075 to put your name on the players list. The department sometimes has coaches who call looking for extra players to round out their rosters. Call and leave your name, age, address and phone number and the recreation department will keep your name on file for the team that is looking for extra players.
