The Hydrocephalus Association (www.hydroassoc.org) has announced their Inaugural Golf Tournament Aug. 1 at Eisenhower Park.

The event is being held to raise awareness of hydrocephalus, as well as provide funding for research to cure and treat the disease. Hydrocephalus occurs when there is an abnormal accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) within the ventricles inside the brain, and causes the ventricles to enlarge and the pressure inside the head to increase. The disease causes pain and disillusions for the people who are diagnosed and treated for hydrocephalus, among other complications.

Since there is no known cure for this disease, the Hydrocephalus Association has organized its first ever golf tournament on Long Island in efforts to raise funding for its research and treatments, as well as build partnerships with local and national organizations to help battle this disease for years to come.

The Hydrocephalus Association is a non-profit organization established in 1983 and is based out of San Francisco, CA, with 25,000 members worldwide. The association's mission is to provide support, education and advocacy for individuals, families and professionals dealing with the complex issues of hydrocephalus.

To make arrangements for sponsoring the event, or to give a charitable donation on behalf of your affiliation or company, send a check for The Hydrocephalus Association to recent Garden City High School graduate, Nicole Russo, 29 Laurel Street, Garden City, NY 11530 or call 448-8982.
