The Garden City Recreation Department's Dance Ensemble is pleased to announce its upcoming performance this Friday, May 26, at the Herricks Community Center at 7:30 p.m. The Dance Ensemble is now open to dancers from the third grade and older who study at the recreation department's Dance Conservatory at Cluett Hall.

Tickets to the performance are $5. To purchase tickets, visit the recreation office in village hall.

The Dance Ensemble is in addition to the girls' regular training in keeping with the non-recital based program. There is no longer an audition process. All students willing to work hard and have a desire to dance are accepted. Come and see the work the children have accomplished!

The recreation department has secured tickets on consignment to Nassau Coliseum's performance of Care Bears Live. This show will take place Saturday, June 17, at 10:30 a.m. The tickets are located in section 208 and the cost of each ticket is $16.50.

These tickets are available to any resident of Garden City. A maximum of six tickets may be purchased by any one family. For information or to purchase tickets, visit the recreation office in village hall.

The recreation department will conduct evening tennis lessons for adults who live in Garden City. The lessons will be held at the Garden City Community Park tennis facility and will run one evening a week. There will be a maximum of four players on a court. The dates, times and fees will be as follows:

To register for any of these sessions, visit the recreation office in village hall to fill out an application. The tennis pro will then set up lessons on the courts with people with like abilities. Residents will be emailed or called with his/her lesson assignment.

The recreation department will be conducting a youth basketball camp for boys and girls who reside in Garden City June 26-29. The camp will be held in the St. Paul's Field House under the direction of Pat Kennedy.

An instructional camp will be offered for boys and girls entering Grades 3-4 in September 2006 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. and a session for boys and girls entering Grades 5-6 in September 2006 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be a limit of 50 children for each session.

The purpose of this program is to provide instruction in self-improvement, basketball fundamentals, team play, group cooperation and most important, fun. The cost of this camp is $60, which includes a T-shirt.

The department will conduct a summer field hockey camp for girls who live in Garden City under the direction of Pat Kennedy.

The camp will be held Monday through Thursday during the week of July 17-20 on the soccer field at Community Park. This instructional program is offered to children entering Grades 4-7. The session will be held from 9:30 a.m. to noon. The camp will focus on individual skill development and the rules of the game as well as the importance of playing together as a team. Equipment will be supplied and the cost of this program is $75.

The Garden City Recreation Department's stretch and tone class, taught by Felicia Lovaglio, will continue on Tuesdays and Thursdays according to the following schedule:

Tuesdays, 9:30-10:30 a.m. beginning May 2, $56

Thursdays, 9:30-10:30 a.m. beginning May 11, $48

The Garden City Recreation Department will be conducting a youth soccer camp for boys and girls who reside in Garden City during the weeks of July 31-Aug. 3 and Aug. 7-10 at Community Park (behind the Garden City Pool).

This instructional program will be offered for boys and girls ages 6-12. Youngsters must be 6 years old by the start of the camp and entering first grade in September 2006 in order to register. Proof of age will be required.

The two-hour session will run from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at a cost of $60 and will focus on individual skill development. The five-hour session will run from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at a cost of $130. The five-hour session will include an hour lunch break and swim session supervised by soccer camp staff, to be followed by full field games.

Girls entering Grades 3-6 in September 2006 here is an opportunity for youngsters who reside in Garden City to learn this fast, exciting sport.

The program will teach the basic techniques of catching, throwing and scooping and then move on to drills and the rules of the game. All necessary equipment will be provided and no experience is necessary. The program will be run by Wally Cook, who has years of experience in lacrosse. The group will meet on weekday mornings at Stewart Field. The camp will run from 9:30 a.m. to noon each day according to the following schedule:

July 5-7 (Wednesday-Friday) Cost $60

July 10-13 (Monday-Thursday) Cost $75

The recreation department will conduct a pre-school camp for girls and boys 3.5-5 years old who reside in Garden City. Children who attend this camp must be 3.5 years by the start of the session. This camp will be held at the St. Paul's Cluett Hall from 10:30 a.m. to noon. The cost of each session will be $75. Arts and crafts, music, nature and stories will fill the one and one half hour class. The sessions are as follows:

Session I, July 10-14

Session II, July 17-21

Session III, July 24-28

Session IV, July 31-Aug. 4

Session V, Aug. 7-11

There are limited openings available in the recreation department's baseball camp. Visit the recreation office for an application. For further information, call 465-4075. If you reside in Garden City and are age 18 or over, would you like to play softball in one of the recreation department's softball leagues? Call the recreation office at 465-4075 to put your name on the players list. The department sometimes has coaches who call looking for extra players to round out their rosters. Call and leave your name, age, address and phone number and the recreation department will keep your name on file for the team that is looking for extra players.

The Garden City Recreation Department will conduct a tennis camp program for boys and girls aged 7 and up who reside in the village. The sessions will run according to the following age groups: 7-8 years, 9-11 years and 12 years and older. The age of the child at the start of the session will determine which session the child may attend. This instructional program will be conducted in two-hour sessions.
