The board of trustees and village staff join me in extending wishes for a Happy Passover and Happy Easter to village residents. The 81st annual meeting and 4th annual Pineapple Ball was held April 7 at The Garden City Hotel. The Chamber of Commerce honored the following distinguished members of our community: Robert B. Catell, chairman and CEO, KeySpan Corporation, as Citizen of the Year; George L. Engelke, Jr., chairman, president and CEO, Astoria Financial Corporation, Astoria Federal Savings & Loan Association, with the Community Achievement Award; and Russell G. Matthews, executive vice president, Albanese Organization, Inc., as Businessperson of the Year. I would like to congratulate each of the honorees on their well-deserved recognition.
