Yoga is growing in popularity because it relieves stress, creates relaxation and promotes a healthy mind and body. Participants will learn breath work and yoga postures that benefit everyone.
The recreation department is offering yoga for adults who reside in Garden City. The class, taught by certified aerobic instructor Connie McKnight, takes place in St. Paul's Cluett Hall and is held from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. This eight-week session, which began Feb. 16, costs $40. All participants are asked to wear comfortable clothing and bring a sticky mat to the first class. For further information or to register, visit the recreation office in village hall.
The recreation department has limited tickets still available for the Ringling Bros./Barnum Bailey Circus at the Nassau Coliseum. These tickets are for Thursday, March 16, at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, March 18, at 11 a.m. The cost of each ticket is $21.50. Registration is still ongoing for the recreation department's roller hockey program for the following age groups:
Rookies: ages 5-7 with no experience - the program is so popular that the department has opened another section. This learn-and-play clinic will run from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday afternoons beginning March 12. The cost of this eight-week program is $60.
Juniors: ages 9 to 10 - held Friday afternoons from 5:45 to 7:15 p.m. and beginning March 10. This program is played in an intramural league format. Children are placed on teams, play a six-week intramural schedule and then have a playoff. The cost of this program is $60. There is room for 10 more children in this age group.
Intermediates: ages 11-14 - this program has been moved to Friday evenings at 7:30 p.m. instead of Wednesdays so as not to interfere with school. The format of this league is the same as the Juniors above. The cost is $60.

The recreation department's last recreation night will be held for all middle school grades 6-8, this Friday, March 3, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the St. Paul's Field House. Admission is $5 and recreation staff will provide supervision. Please note: Once children enter St. Paul's they will not be allowed to leave without a parent. Parents must enter St. Paul's to pick up their children.
