Yoga is growing in popularity because it relieves stress, creates relaxation and promotes a healthy mind and body. Participants will learn breath work and yoga postures that benefit everyone.
The recreation department will be offering yoga for adults who reside in Garden City. The class, taught by certified aerobic instructor Connie McKnight, will take place in St. Paul's Cluett Hall beginning Thursday, Feb. 16, and will be held from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. This eight-week session will cost $40. All participants are asked to wear comfortable clothing and bring a sticky mat to the first class. For further information or to register, visit the recreation office in village hall.
Looking for something different to do during February break? Try one or more of our one-hour workshops. Each workshop will be held in St. Paul's Cluett Hall and will give participants a taste of the subject indicated. All classes are open to residents of Garden City. There is a registration fee of $5 for each workshop attended. Class size is limited, so please visit the recreation office in village hall to register.

The Garden City Recreation Department's winter session of Yoga Over 50 will begin Thursday, Feb. 16. This program is open to adults over 50 years of age who live in Garden City. The class will meet for 12 weeks from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in St. Paul's Cluett Hall. The cost of this program is $60.
Please make selections carefully, as fees are not returnable. To register, pick up an application at the recreation office in village hall. Residents can also make their own by listing name, address, phone number, birth date and the class for which they are registering. Mail all information with full payment to the Garden City Recreation Department, 351 Stewart Avenue. Please make all checks payable to the "Inc. Village of Garden City."
The recreation department is sponsoring a spring roller hockey league for teens ages 13-15 who reside in Garden City. This league will play on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. beginning March 8. The cost of this eight-week program will be $60. For further information or to register, visit the recreation office in village hall.
The recreation department is pleased to announce that this winter it will sponsor an intramural program in volleyball and basketball for middle and high school-age children. This program will be conducted weekday afternoons after school in the St. Paul's Field House. Rich Anderson and the recreation department staff will supervise the program.
The winter intramural program will provide students an opportunity to participate in after-school sport activities in a structured setting. Children participating will be broken into teams and will play games in a round robin format.
This program began Jan. 4 and will run through Feb. 16. The activities will operate according to the following schedule:
* Wednesday, Middle School Basketball, 3:40 to 4:40 p.m.
* Wednesday, High School Basketball, 4:45 to 6 p.m.
* Thursday, Middle School Volleyball, 3:40 to 4:40 p.m.
* Thursday, High School Volleyball, 4:45 to 6 p.m.
