Recreation staff will supervise these nights. Admission is $5. A DJ will provide music and refreshments will be available for a nominal charge. The gym will be open for basketball, volleyball, dancing and other games.
Please note once children are in the Field House, they will not be allowed to leave unless accompanied by a parent. Please come down into the Field House to pick up your child.

Garden City Recreation will be showing the remake of the movie Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in Cluett Hall Sunday, Jan. 29, at 1 p.m. The movie stars Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka and is rated PG. Admission is free and snacks can be purchased at a nominal charge. For information, call the recreation office at 465-4076.
The Garden City Recreation Department will be conducting children's swimming lessons for village residents at the Adelphi Swimming Pool in Woodruff Hall on Saturday mornings. Your child must be 6 years of age by the start of the program to participate. The classes will begin this Saturday, Jan. 28, and run for nine weeks. Red Cross certified instructors teach the classes. The cost is $40. Walk-in registrations are now being accepted.

Water fitness - for children who have passed "Red Cross" Level 6 or 7 or were currently taking Level 7 - sessions will cover learning training techniques, how to use fins, kickboards, pace, clock, etc.

Residents can also make their own by listing their child's name, address, phone number, birth date, grade child will be entering in September and the session and classes for which they are registering. Mail all information with full payment to the Garden City Recreation Department, 351 Stewart Avenue. Please make checks payable to the "Inc. Village of Garden City." The recreation department cannot be responsible for delays in the mail.
The Garden City Recreation Department's winter session of Yoga Over 50 will begin Thursday, Feb. 16. This program is open to adults over 50 years of age who live in Garden City. The class will meet for 12 weeks from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in St. Paul's Cluett Hall. The cost of this program is $60.

The recreation department will run a spring roller hockey league for residents of Garden City. All games are played at the Garden City Community Park roller hockey rinks according to the following schedule:

Due to popular demand, the Garden City Recreation Department is again offering an adult pastel class taught by Arleen Ruth Urban. This class is open to adult residents of Garden City. The class runs from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Fridays. The classes are held at Cluett Hall at St. Paul's. The cost of the program is $105.
This 10-week program teaches the beginner as well as advanced student the art of painting portraits and landscapes/still-life in pastels from photographs. Students are given the option of dividing each three-hour session between portrait or landscape, or they may concentrate solely on the subject of their choice.
Demonstrations are available as needed throughout the program. Each student receives the individual attention required to work at his/her own pace and level of expertise.
Arleen Ruth Urban, the instructor for this program, is a signature member of the Pastel Society of America. A winner of numerous awards, her commissioned portraits hang in many Garden City homes.

On Sunday afternoons, St. Paul's Field House is being designated as "open gym time" for village families. This open time provides the opportunity for families to enjoy activities together in an open and unstructured setting.
Please note this time is designated for residents to use the Field House with their families. Organized group practices and workouts are not allowed during this time. Parents are expected to accompany their children.
The recreation department is pleased to announce that this winter it will sponsor an intramural program in volleyball and basketball for middle and high school-aged children. This program will be conducted weekday afternoons after school in the St. Paul's Field House. Rich Anderson and the recreation department staff will supervise the program.
The winter intramural program will provide students an opportunity to participate in after-school sport activities in a structured setting. Children participating will be broken into teams and will play games in a round robin format.
This program began Jan. 4 and will run through Feb. 16. The activities will operate according to the following schedule:

There are limited spots available for the recreation department's preschool arts and crafts program. This program is open to children aged 3 1/2 to 5 years old who reside in Garden City. For information, visit the recreation office in village hall.
The recreation department is announcing the start of a series of interviews for summer jobs at the Garden City Pool. If you enjoy being outdoors and are willing to make a commitment to become part of a team that works hard to provide quality facilities for residents, we would like to meet you! Interviews will be conducted by appointment only from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at village hall on the following remaining date:
