Garden City Police Department Loses One of Its Finest
The Garden City Police Department sadly announces the death of Garden City Police Officer Robert "Bob" Dempsey Jr. on Friday, Dec. 16. Mr. Dempsey was a Garden City police officer for the past five and one-half years and before that served as a parking enforcement aide for the department for five years. He also was a member of the Baldwin Fire Department and a former member of the United States Marine Corps and served during Dessert Storm.
Village Served Summons Regarding St. Paul's Spending
Although Mayor Gerard Lundquist publicly stated that a decision on what to do with the historic Main Building that is St. Paul's would be forthcoming in "early 2006," a lawsuit filed Jan. 6 by residents Thomas Poole; Peter Negri, a former Garden City trustee in office during Barbara Miller's mayoral term; and James Edmund Keating could hold up the process.
Garden City Centennial Soccer Club News
The Garden City Centennial Soccer Club will be sponsoring a Long Island Junior "C" license course. This "C" license course introduces students to the fundamental concepts of soccer and teaches attendees how to coach this game. Garden City Recreation Department News
Bill Fix, a wildlife rehabilitator for US Wildlife Services, will again visit Cluett Hall this year Sunday, Jan. 22, at 1 p.m. His discussion will use live animals to help children gain an understanding of these amazing creatures and the need for wildlife protection. The performance will be geared toward families with children ages 5-12. To reserve a seat, call the recreation office at 465-4075.
