Due to the popularity of the recreation department's roller hockey leagues, the department is beginning a floor hockey program for the winter months. This five-week program will begin this Friday, Dec. 2, according to the following schedule:

Ages 7-9	Fridays	6:30-7:30 p.m.
Ages 10-12	Fridays	8-9 p.m.

This program is open to any child who lives in Garden City. The cost of this program is $10. The required equipment is as follows: helmet, hockey gloves, shin pads, sneakers and stick. The men's Saturday morning basketball program will begin this Saturday, Dec. 3, between 9-11:30 a.m. in the south gym of the Garden City Middle School. This free program is open to any adult resident of Garden City. These games are strictly pick up and residents may be asked to show proof of residency. For further information, call 465-4075. As a courtesy to Garden City residents, Adelphi University offers adult swim sessions through the Garden City Recreation Department at their indoor pool located at Woodruff Hall. This free program is open to any adult, 18 years or older, who is a resident of the Village of Garden City. The pool is open for use Monday through Thursday in two sessions: 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Anyone interested in this program must sign up through the recreation department. The recreation department's chess club will begin again Saturday, Dec. 10. The club will meet each Saturday afternoon from noon to 2 p.m. in the Garden City Library small meeting room. Under the direction of Paul Dooher, the children will have a chance to learn strategies while playing games each week. Beginners will be taught the basic moves and concepts. There is no charge for this program and no registration is required. Youngsters in Grades 3-7 are invited to attend. For information, call the recreation office at 465-4075.

The recreation department is announcing the start of a series of interviews for summer jobs at the Garden City Pool. If you enjoy being outdoors and are willing to make a commitment to become part of a team that works hard to provide quality facilities for residents, we would like to meet you! If you presently are a high school senior or older, please visit the recreation office in village hall to pick up an application and set up an interview. Interviews will be conducted by appointment only from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at village hall on the following dates:

Reminder: even if you were employed by the Pool last year, you are still required to re-apply and be interviewed for the upcoming season.

The Garden City Recreation Department offers aerobics classes in Cluett Hall. These classes are taught by certified aerobic instructors and run year round. It costs $4 to attend a class or you can buy a 20-class pass at Cluett Hall for $60. No pre-registration is necessary. The schedule is as follows:

The recreation department is accepting registrations for the second session of youth tennis lessons, which begin at Community Park Tennis Center in January.
