In a squeaker of a match, the Garden City High School quiz bowl team beat East Meadow High School in this year's first round of competition in Cablevision's Long Island Challenge.

Students were asked to provide answers in this fast-paced competition that included questions from science, math, social studies, English and popular culture. After their victory against East Meadow, Garden City was asked to play Solomon Schecter High School in the second round of play. The team's win against Solomon Schecter put them into the quarter finals. Team advisor Doug Sheer complimented team members Andrew Butler (junior), Eric Bevilacqua (senior), Arash Bahar (senior) and Ed Keenan (junior) on their breadth of knowledge and quick responses with the buzzer.

"The pressure the team feels under the bright lights and a ticking clock makes it a very stressful situation. Knowing that a single loss leads to elimination only compounds the tension. Our students did a great job and are looking forward to our next round of competition," Sheer said.
