I have been advised that the recent school supply collection at village hall went very well and I compliment all who participated and donated for their generosity. The collection program will continue for one additional week. Persons wishing to make a donation may drop off their package at Principal Hank Hardy's office at the high school.
Regrettably, all too often our young people are criticized for the negative behavior of a relative few. I am pleased to let you know that this Halloween was virtually free of vandalism, demonstrating that our young people do care about their village. On behalf of the parents I thank residents for providing delicious but safe "treats" for the children. A good day was had by all!
I would like to extend appreciation to the Garden City High School for the honor of being named grand marshal in the Oct. 29 Homecoming Day Parade and to the Chamber of Commerce for their efforts on another successful Festival and Street Fair. Congratulations are due to both the Chamber and School District.
Veterans Day, Nov. 11, is the one day each year in which America remembers her sons and daughters who served in the Armed Forces of the United States. It is right that a gratified nation set aside one day a year to recognize and remember these men and women.
This Friday, Nov. 11, the William Bradford Turner Post of the American Legion of Garden City will hold a short memorial salute to these veterans at 11 a.m. at the memorial situated on the Library grounds at Seventh Street. All residents are invited and encouraged to attend these brief ceremonies.
With the fall season upon us and the colorful leaves now beginning to fall, the village's website will be updated weekly to advise residents of the leaf collection schedule. This information can be easily accessed at the top of the first page of our website. The village website also provides a direct link to the various Garden City School District websites. This feature may be accessed by simply clicking on schools, located on the first page as well.
