Garden City police report numerous break-ins in the village since Friday, Sept. 30. On that day, unknown person(s) entered a Roxbury Road residence sometime between 6:30-7:40 p.m. through a broken second story window. Homeowners came home to find ransacked rooms and jewelry missing.
According to police, also on Friday, Sept. 30, sometime between 6:30-8:45 p.m., unknown person(s) entered a Sackville Road residence. The homeowner returned home to find a second floor window ajar and $15,000 in assorted jewelry missing. Later that evening, a Weyford Terrace resident heard noise upstairs at 11:15 p.m. An investigation revealed unknown persons entered the home by popping out the skylight and kicking in the ceiling. The subject(s) left the scene and it was unknown at press time if anything was reported missing.
On Sunday, Oct. 2, sometime between 8:45-11:15 a.m. police report a Westbury Road residence was broken into through a rear window. Assorted jewelry, silverware and personal property were reported missing.
Police Commissioner and Trustee Robert Rothschild praised Commissioner Ernest Cipullo and the Garden City Police Department in their "great effort" in trying to apprehend the culprit(s). He also advised residents to use their home alarms if they've got one. "I'm not trying to scare anyone," he said. "But just be a little more diligent." He also urged residents to call the police department if they see what they believe to be suspicious activity.
Mayor Gerard Lundquist added, "Everyone in this village needs to be very conscious of their surroundings ... Don't be afraid to call the police if you are concerned ... The men and women on the force are more than capable."
