Released less than two weeks ago, a new book by John Ellis Kordes, Visions of Garden City, is "flying off the shelves," according to Richard Zimmermann, manager of Riesterer's and Gerry Anne's card store on Seventh Street, said.

"I'm quite pleased so far with the initial response," Kordes, a professional photographer and Garden City's village historian, said. Kordes spent a year creating the book, which includes more than 150 photographs taken by him between 1989 and 2004. His knowledge of Garden City and its history is evident page after page. The hard cover book includes 80 pages and a laminated book jacket.

"I wanted the book to be special so that people would not only keep it for themselves, but also give it as a gift," Kordes, who separated the book by seasons, added. The reader takes a journey through a year in Garden City while experiencing each season. There is also a full color map and an extensive timeline, with more than 100 dates in Garden City's past. The book even features some of the last photos taken at St. Mary's and St. Paul's schools.

Visions of Garden City is on sale for $39.95 at Riesterer's, Gerry Anne's card store, Barnes Gallery, The Garden City Hotel gift shop and directly from John Ellis Kordes Photography (742-4113).
