The recreation department is beginning a paddle tennis program for teens. This program will meet for five Fridays beginning Oct. 7 according to the following schedule:

Grades 6-8	Friday from 5:30-7 p.m.
Grades 9-12	Friday from 7-8:30 p.m.

The Garden City Recreation Department is pleased to announce it is now opening registration for the Dance Conservatory Program. All classes begin this week. A child must be 4 years of age to begin classes with the exception of Creative Movement. A child must be preschool age for Creative Movement, must be toilet trained and must be able to stay alone in a supervised setting. The program is for residents of Garden City only.

Please make selections carefully, as fees are not returnable. To register by mail only - walk-in registrations are now being accepted as of Sept. 20 - pick up an application at the recreation office at village hall. Residents can also make their own by listing their child's name, address, phone number, birth date, grade and the classes for which they are registering. Mail all information with full payment to the Garden City Recreation Department, 351 Stewart Avenue, Garden City, NY 11530. Please make all checks payable to the "Inc. Village of Garden City." The recreation department cannot be held responsible for delays in the mail.

Due to popular demand, the recreation department is again offering an adult pastel class taught by Arleen Ruth Urban. This class is open to adult village residents. The class, which began Sept. 9, runs from 9 to 11:30 a.m. on Fridays. The classes are being held in Cluett Hall at St. Paul's. The registration fee for this program is $105. A list of art supplies to be purchased was given out at the first class.

This 10-week program teaches the beginner as well as advanced student the art of painting portraits and landscapes/still-life in pastels from photographs. Students are given the option of dividing each three-hour session between portrait or landscape or they may concentrate solely on the subject of their choice. Demonstrations are available as needed throughout the program. Each student receives the individual attention required to work at his/her own pace and level of expertise.

Urban is a signature member of the Pastel Society of America. A winner of numerous awards, her commissioned portraits hang in many Garden City homes. To register, visit the recreation office in village hall.

Session I of the recreation department's children's tennis lessons has begun. This 12-week program is open to children ages 4-18 who reside in Garden City. Please visit the recreation office in village hall to register for this program.
