Just a reminder that the village board will be conducting its Oct. 6 meeting in the Stewart School auditorium. The change in location from village hall is intended to accommodate residents who wish to comment at the public hearing on the proposed re-zoning of 550 Stewart Avenue. The former Newsday property on Stewart Avenue was recently sold and the buildings razed. As a consequence of this, the village planner was asked to review the zoning in that area and examine the permitted uses in the Commercial C-3 Districts to facilitate the proper redevelopment in that district. As a result of input from the village planner, members of the village board of trustees and staff amendments to Section 200-28 and the District Map of the Zoning Code of the village were proposed. The proposed amendment will eliminate office use in the north parcel and allow single family homes and townhouses. The southerly portion of the C-3 zone will remain with the provision for multi-family housing subject to approval by the board of trustees.
As I drove by the St. Paul's fields earlier in the week, I was pleased to observe five carpenters busy constructing the frame of the support building. We are displeased that the general contractor has delayed construction on the building, which should have been completed at this time, but we have received assurances from them that progress will continue at a rapid pace. The village has filed notice with the contractor's bonding company and the village Public Works' staff is closely monitoring daily progress on the structure. In the interim, the recreation department has opened the restrooms in Cluett Hall to accommodate the needs of those participating in after school team practice sessions.
