Chamber members arrived at the Garden City Toll Lodge Friday, Aug. 5, to find graffiti smeared across the building.

On Sunday, Aug. 14, police arrested a 15-year-old Garden City resident in connection to numerous cases of vandalism throughout the village during the past several months. The most recent hit - the historic Garden City Toll Lodge on Seventh Street, the Garden City Chamber of Commerce's headquarters since 1992.
The incident occurred some time Thursday, Aug. 4. Chamber members arrived the following day to find graffiti smeared across the chamber's sign as well as the toll lodge itself. Garden City police told the Garden City Life the teen has been leaving his tag, "TOKE," across town.
Chamber Executive Director Althea Robinson said the toll lodge, which the chamber saved from the wrecker's ball back in March 1989, has been used as a local hangout for years. Every Monday morning, Robinson said, chamber members must clean up beer bottles and cans, cigarette butts and other debris from the area. This latest incident, however, she said, is "the last straw." She assured that, with assistance from the Garden City Police Department, the chamber intends to prosecute the "culprit" to the fullest extent of the law.
