Board Approves $25 Railroad Parking Permit Increase
After requesting a review of the village's current fee schedule during the last budget process, trustees considered doubling the price of railroad parking permits charged to village commuters from $50 to $100. According to Village Auditor James Olivo, an increase has not been done in at least five to seven years and is considered "on the low side." The Village of Mineola charges residents $55 for railroad parking permits.

Historic Garden City Toll Lodge Smeared With Graffiti
On Sunday, Aug. 14, police arrested a 15-year-old Garden City resident in connection to numerous cases of vandalism throughout the village during the past several months. The most recent hit - the historic Garden City Toll Lodge on Seventh Street, the Garden City Chamber of Commerce's headquarters since 1992.

Please mark your calendar for the start dates for fall sports: junior varsity and varsity football began Monday, Aug. 22 at 7 a.m.; all other fall sports begin this Monday, Aug. 29, at 8 a.m.; and middle school fall sports begin Tuesday, Sept. 6.

If you have not registered for Centennial soccer in the fall, you are now late. The deadline for registration was July 31. The Garden City Centennial Soccer Club is accepting late applications for the fall girls' soccer program. Girls in grades K-9 are invited to join the intramural program.
