Investigation Planned for Nassau Boulevard LIRR Substation
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC), working with the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH), the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) and the LIRR's environmental consultant, has developed an Investigation Work Plan and has scheduled field work to investigate the nature and extent of soil and groundwater contamination at 17 LIRR substations, including the Nassau Boulevard substation in Garden City. Other substation sites include one in Little Neck, Queens; Mineola; Floral Park and Port Washington.

Leading Wine Expert Launches 'Vino University'
James Dunne, one of the region's leading beverage educators who has taught many top hospitality professionals about wine for more than a decade, is now bringing his expertise in the wine industry to the general public. This fall he will launch the first session of Vino University - a unique eight-week course he has designed to arm people with the wine tasting/buying skills that have become increasingly important in today's business and social culture. Unlike more traditional wine education programs, Vino University is geared to provide a casual and relaxed atmosphere with as much emphasis on having fun as learning about the differences and nuances between various styles of wines.

Buckley Boasts Three Undefeated Lacrosse Teams
For the first time in the nearly 80-year history of Buckley Country Day School, three of its lacrosse teams went undefeated in the same season. The boys' seventh/eighth-grade team finished 5-0, the girls' seventh/eighth-grade team ended their campaign 7-0 and the boys' fifth/sixth-grade team wrapped up their season with a record of 4-0-2.
