On July 22, Brandon Saldana traveled to The Westminster School Campus in Simsbury, CT for a local Goalie War Tournament hosted by Star Goalkeeper Academy. Saldana agreed to play up to two years in the 16-year-old division since one of those players was a no-show.
At first, he was a little nervous, but after he won his first game by 18-8, he was more confident. Saldana won his next two games of round-robin play 21-4 and 18-11. These wins secured him first place and a "bye" into the finals.
He faced a previous opponent, which he had won by 18-11. This time, his opponent stepped up his game and was able to win in the final game 21-19. Saldana would come in second place (silver medal) - an impressive showing considering that he was a 14-year-old competing against 16-year-olds. Saldana will be back to compete in the Goalie War Regionals scheduled for October 2005 at Rutgers University. Until then, he continues to play soccer as the goalie for the Massapequa Terminators Region 1 Premier Team, as well as the LIJSL Select ODP Team. He also traveled to England July 27 for an eight-day soccer tour in London and Manchester.
