One of the most attractive facilities within the village is our Garden City Swimming Pool. Its fourth season began Saturday, June 11. All residents are encouraged to become members and enjoy all that it has to offer to all age groups. On Wednesday evening, June 1, I had the pleasure of attending the Spring Concert at the Garden City High School. It truly was a grand performance. My sincere congratulations go to James McCrann, director of Bands, and the entire music department; Dr. Stephen Leitman, superintendent of schools; Hank Hardy, Garden City High School principal, and the Garden City High School administration, and Kenneth Monaghan and the school board. My daughter Lauren, who is a senior member of the band, and my sons, Matthew and Daniel, who preceded her in the Garden City High School, all benefited from the experiences they received. It must be noted that Garden City was named "Among the Best 100 Communities for Music Education in the United States." Just a reminder that the meetings on the third track project will be held June 14, at Jericho Terrace, 249 Jericho Turnpike, Mineola; Thursday, June 16, at Floral Terrace, 250 Jericho Turnpike, Floral Park; and Tuesday, June 21, at Antun's, 244 Old Country Road, Hicksville. All sessions will be conducted between 4 and 6 p.m. and 7 and 9 p.m. We were pleased to learn from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada that the village's Comprehensive Annual Finance Report (CAFR) for the fiscal year that ended May 31, 2004 earned a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting. The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting and its accomplishment by the village.

By an Act of Congress, dated August 3, 1949, June 14 of each year was designated "National Flag Day" and the week in which June 14 occurs as "National Flag Week." The "Pause for the Pledge of Allegiance" was made an official Flag Day ceremony by an Act of Congress in 1985.

The National Flag Day Foundation, Inc. is asking all citizens of the United Sates to display the flag during that week. Please remember that displaying the flag at night requires proper illumination.
