During the past year, the Garden City Recreation Department has concentrated on expanding programs and activities, as well as adding several other enhancements, for members of Garden City's growing senior population (22 percent and increasing).

Levinson Scrutinizes Ref-Fuel's Multi-Million Dollar Tax Break
Harvey Levinson, chairman of the Nassau County Department of Assessment, recently held a press conference questioning an agreement between the Town of Hempstead's Industrial Development Agency (IDA) and the American Ref-Fuel waste facility located at Merchants Concourse in Westbury. According to Levinson, an intense review of exemption and PILOT agreements on file with the department uncovered that the Ref-Fuel facility has not paid property taxes since it became operational in 1985.

Jump Start Foundation Triathlon to Benefit Mercy Hospital
Jump Start Foundation will be hosting its second annual individual and relay triathlon at Hofstra University Sunday morning, June 26, for ages 9 to 99, to raise awareness for and to benefit the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of Mercy Medical Center.

Recreation Department News
The recreation department will be conducting a preschool camp for girls and boys 3.5-5 years old who reside in the village. Children who attend this camp must be 3.5 years by the start of the session they choose. This camp will be held at Cluett Hall at St. Paul's from 10:30 a.m. to noon. The cost of each one-week session is $75. Arts and crafts, music, nature and stories will fill the one and one half-hour class. The sessions are as follow:
