Residents who prefer not to be solicited at their home may file notices of objection at village hall (business office) requesting that salespeople and other solicitors not visit their homes. The "Do Not Solicit List" has been in place in Garden City for at least 25 years. Currently, approximately 1,600 addresses are listed. According to Garden City Police Commissioner Ernest Cipullo, officers have issued several appearance tickets to violators. "So it does work," he said.

Now through September 30, the Neighborhood Network Research Center, Inc., located at 7180 Republic Airport in East Farmingdale, will be soliciting village homes to conduct a door-to-door outreach program.

Village Counsel Gary Fishberg noted that any solicitor is required to abide by the village's list and not visit those homes whose addresses are on the list. "If interested in not being solicited by this group, or any group for that matter, you should register at village hall," he said. Fishberg further noted that the village does have a limited amount of discretion and can regulate, to some degree, soliciting hours and require identification be shown.
