The recreation department's annual Pepsi-Pitch, Hit and Run skills competition will be held at Grove Park this Thursday, May 5, at Grove Park. Start time will be 4 p.m. Children aged 7-14 who reside in the village are invited to participate. For further information or to pick up a registration form, visit the recreation office in village hall by this Wednesday, May 4. The recreation department will be conducting a pre-school camp for girls and boys 3.5-5 years old who reside in the village. Children who attend this camp must be 3.5 years by the start of the session they choose. This camp will be held at Cluett Hall at St. Paul's from 10:30 a.m. to noon. The cost of each one-week session is $75. Arts and crafts, music, nature and stories will fill the one and one half-hour class. The sessions are as follow:

Session IV Aug. 1-5
Session V Aug. 8-15
Children must be 3.5 years old by the start of the class. A copy of the child's birth certificate must accompany the registration. The recreation department will offer a lacrosse camp for boys entering Grades 3-6 in September. This camp is open to children who reside in Garden City. The program will teach them the techniques of catching, throwing and scooping. They will then move in to drills and the rules of the game. The boys will play inter-group games on a modified lacrosse field. All equipment is supplied and no previous experience is necessary. Bob Defliese and Wally Cook, of the Garden City schools, will conduct the program during the week of July 11-14 (Monday through Thursday) on the fields of Stewart Field. The camp will run from 9 a.m. to noon each day. The fee of this camp is $90 per player, which includes the cost of a T-shirt.

The Garden City Recreation Department will be conducting a youth soccer camp for boys and girls who live in Garden City during the weeks of Aug 1-4 and Aug. 8-11 at Community Park (behind the pool). This instructional program will be offered for boys and girls aged 6-12. Youngsters must be 6 years old by the start of the camp and entering first grade in September 2005 in order to register for this camp. Proof of age will be required.

The two-hour session will run from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at a cost of $60 and will focus on individual skill development. The five-hour session will run from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at a cost of $130. The five-hour session will include an hour lunch break and swim session supervised by the soccer camp staff, to be followed by full field games.

When choosing a session, please realize that the full-day program is a long day and might not be appropriate for the younger child. Participants must be in good health and able to participate in this physical activity. Please make selections carefully as refunds are not given.

The purpose of this program is to provide instruction in self-improvement, basketball fundamentals, team play, group cooperation and most important of all, fun. This camp will be held in the St. Paul's Field House under the direction of Pat Kennedy. This instructional camp will be offered for boys and girls entering grades three-four in September from 8:30-10:30 a.m. A session for boys and girls entering grades five-six in September will be run between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. There will be a limit of 40 children for each session. The cost of this camp is $60, which includes a T-shirt.

The girls will learn the fundamentals and the rules of this sport in a fun setting. All necessary equipment will be provided and no previous experience is needed. The group will meet on weekday mornings during the weeks of July 11-14 (Monday through Thursday) at Stewart Field. The camp will run from 9 a.m. to noon each day. The fee is $90 per player.

The camp will be held Monday through Thursday during the weeks of July 18-21 and July 25-28 at Community Park. This instructional program is offered for boys and girls aged 6-12 in two-hour sessions for either one week or two weeks. Children who register for this program must be 6 years old by the start of the session. Sessions are held from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. for children aged 6-8 and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for children 9-12 years old. The camp will focus on individual skill development and the importance of playing together as a team. Cost is $60 for one week and $120 for two weeks.

The session will run according to the following age groups: 7-8 years old; 9-11 years old; and 12 years and older. The age of the child at the start of the session will determine which session the child may attend. This instructional program, which will be held at the Community park tennis courts, will be conducted in two-hour classes. Equipment needed: tennis racket, flat soled tennis shoes. Each child may sign up for a maximum of two sessions. The dates, times and fees are as follows:
