Keeping Up With the Joneses
To better meet the competitive needs of a growing university, Adelphi President Dr. Robert Scott came before the Garden City board of trustees to request a special use permit to construct a performing arts building, which would be made available to the Garden City community, a sports complex with, among other amenities, one large gym, which could provide for indoor graduation ceremonies, an 8,000 square foot child activity center and a maintenance building and garage on campus.

District Makes Changes to Kindergarten Program
After heavily weighing parents' concerns regarding proposed changes to the district's kindergarten program, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Stephen Leitman announced April 20 that he has opted to implement a program in which all kindergarten students will attend school for five days a week, between 8:30 a.m. and 2:20 p.m. In the program's current format, students attend for three full days and two half days.

Recreation Department News
The recreation department will be conducting a pre-school camp for girls and boys 3.5-5 years old who reside in the village. Children who attend this camp must be 3.5 years by the start of the session they choose. This camp will be held at Cluett Hall at St. Paul's from 10:30 a.m. to noon. The cost of each one-week session is $75. Arts and crafts, music, nature and stories will fill the one and one half-hour class. The sessions are as follow:
