(Editor's Note: The following letter was originally sent to Garden City Village Administrator Robert Schoelle, Jr. and has been printed below at the author's request.)
A system tilted toward favoring and assisting those who violate building codes and environmental laws to the hurtful and perilous detriment of all law abiding residents clearly needs effective corrective intervention. As Albert Einstein said, "The world is in greater peril from those who tolerate evil than from those who actively commit it."
The Building Superintendent must sustain and abide by any denial from the Garden City Board of Appeals. Where ego ends, humility and honesty begin. Any "modifications" or attempted "alterations" to the non-enforcement of the spirit and letter of the law initiated by the Building Superintendent must be thoroughly reviewed with notice and opportunity to all adjoining residents and with notice and opportunity to all adjoining homeowners who petitioned for the removal of the concrete foundation barrier 21 inches deep at 92 Meadow Street in Garden City before non enforcement continues.
Moreover, the Garden City Board of Appeals can report to the office of the District Attorney any individuals having engaged and any individuals who are still engaging in making false statements and false oaths before accepting questionable, dishonorable deeds and "rubber stamping" permits to the detriment and peril of law abiding residents.
As Garden City officials sign their oaths, they are hereby encouraged to fully review and reverse any and all entrenched cover up patterns by conscientiously abiding faithfully to the meaningful solemnity of their oaths and their fiduciary responsibilities.
