  • News: Lundquist Sworn in as 41st Mayor, Fifth From Hathaway Drive

    Gerard Lundquist made his mayoral debut Monday, April 4 during swearing-in ceremonies at village hall. Mayor Lundquist is Garden City's 41st mayor and, interestingly, the fifth from Hathaway Drive. Aware of the pressing issues that lie before him and the new board, Mayor Lundquist welcomed the challenge as his predecessor, former mayor Barbara Miller, handed over the gavel. FULL STORY

  • News: Board of Trustees Adopt Proposed Village Budget

    Trustees unanimously adopted Garden City's proposed $50,056,695 village budget for Fiscal Year June 1, 2005 through May 31, 2006 - an increase of 3.44 percent from that of last year's - during a hearing April 4. A $35.86 tax rate is required to balance the budget, an increase of 5.97 percent over that of 2004-05. The increase will require the "average home" (one assessed at $13,200) to pay an additional $266.64 in village taxes per year. Residents may examine the budget at village hall, 351 Stewart Avenue, Monday through Friday - excepting legal holidays - between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. FULL STORY

    The GCAA Thunder Football program is currently accepting applications for the upcoming 2005 football season. This year the GCAA Thunder Football program is accepting applications for the following age levels: 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12. Registration for the 2005 season runs through April 30. The registration fee is $95. Applications can be downloaded off the GCAA website - www.gc-aa.com. FULL STORY

  • Sports: Wild Weather, Wild Game: Strikers Beat The Hurricanes

    Despite rain, high winds and cool temperatures, the Strikers assembled at St. Paul's Field to start the spring season opener, which happened to be a Walbaum's Cup game. Their opponents were the Port Washington Hurricanes. It is to be a day remembered for both teams as the weather played a role in the match for which it made playing a very unusual challenge due to the high winds for both teams. The only good part with the weather was the rain had stopped for the entire game. FULL STORY
