Teen Sentenced in Deadly Garden City Accident
On Feb. 23, Judge Jeffrey S. Brown sentenced Omar Syed Afzal, 18, of Mineola, to two to six years in prison for the deaths of two Garden City teens as the result of a car accident Dec. 23, 2003.

Village Counsel's Long Awaited Legal Opinion
Shortly before the Feb. 3 board meeting, Village Counsel Gary Fishberg provided trustees with his long-awaited legal opinion regarding the recent St. Paul's parkland designation. Although trustees still disagree on the designation's benefits, Mayor Barbara Miller again defended her decision, stating she believes it's in the best interest of the village's future.

Centennial Soccer News
The Garden City Centennial Soccer Program will begin its intramurals shortly. This program is open to boys in Pre-K through sixth-grade and to girls in Pre-K through ninth-grade. A child is considered Pre-K if he/she will be attending kindergarten this fall. The schedule of play dates is as follows:

Now that the weather is turning warmer, it is time to think about getting back into shape. The recreation department's aerobics classes are just the thing to get your heart pumping and your body moving. Pat Kennedy and Joy Cody, experienced instructors who try to tailor their programs to the ability level of the participants, teach the classes.
