During this mid-winter break, the recreation department is conducting a gym program for village youth in St. Paul's Field House. The gym program is being held now through this Friday, Feb. 25. The schedule is as follows:
Grades K-1 9-10:30 a.m. planned activities
Grade 2-3 10:30 a.m.-noon planned activities
Grades 4-6 noon-2 p.m. planned activities
Grades 7-12 2-5 p.m. supervised
For further information, contact the recreation office at 465-4075. Registration for the last session of the recreation department's preschool arts and crafts classes will take place in St. Paul's Cluett Hall Tuesday, March 1, at 10 a.m. This six-week program is open to children aged 3.5-5 years old who reside in Garden City. The classes meet once a week for 45 minutes. The schedule is as follows:
Mondays 12:15-1 p.m.
Wednesdays 12:15-1 p.m.
Thursdays 10:45-11:30 a.m.
The recreation department will hold a sixth grade recreation night Friday, March 4, from 7-9 p.m. at St. Paul's Field House. Admission is $5. A DJ will provide music, volleyball and basketball will be available. Refreshments will be sold at a nominal charge. Recreation department's staff will supervise this event. Now that the weather is turning warmer, it is time to think about getting back into shape. The recreation department's aerobics classes are just the thing to get your heart pumping and your body moving. Pat Kennedy and Joy Cody, experienced instructors who try to tailor their programs to the ability level of the participants, teach the classes.

The easy way to participate in the aerobics classes is to purchase a 20-class pass. By purchasing this pass, residents can attend any class that fits their schedule. The cost of a pass is $60. Passes may be purchased at Cluett Hall or in the recreation office at village hall. For those who would like to try a class or two before purchasing a pass, daily admission is $4. Classes are held in Cluett Hall at the St. Paul's complex according to the following schedule:

Monday 9 a.m.
Wednesday 8:30 a.m.
Thursday 8:30 a.m.
Thursday (step) 7:15 p.m.
Sunday 6:45 p.m.
The recreation department's adult programs in the Field House continue according to the following schedule:
Mondays Men's open basketball 7:30-10 p.m.
Men's over 30 basketball 7:30-10 p.m.
Tuesdays Men's over 30 basketball 7:30-10 p.m.
Wednesdays Men's open basketball 7:30-10 p.m.
Men's over 40 basketball 7:30-10 p.m.
Thursdays Co-ed Adult volleyball 7:30-10 p.m.
Adult soccer 8:30-10 p.m.
These programs are open to adult residents of Garden City. For further information, call 465-4075. The recreation department offers adult swim sessions at Adelphi University's indoor pool located at Woodruff Hall. This free program is open to any adult, 18 years or older, who lives in Garden City. The pool is open for use Mondays through Thursdays in two sessions: 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. Anyone interested must sign up through the recreation department. Residents must register each day they would like to swim by calling the recreation office at 465-4075. No reservations will be taken ahead of time. For more information, call the recreation office. The recreation department has tickets on consignment to the following shows at the Nassau Coliseum:
Ringling Brothers Circus March 17 7:30 p.m. $18.50
Champions on Ice April 4 7 p.m. $60.50
All Ringling Brothers tickets for Saturday have been sold. Tickets for these shows can be purchased at the recreation office in village hall. Residents of Garden City may purchase up to six tickets for any one show. Tickets must be purchased in cash; no checks will be accepted. For more information, call the recreation office at 465-4075. Garden City Pool staff will conduct their last set of interviews Saturday, March 5, at the recreation office in village hall. If you are presently a high school junior or older and are looking for a summer job, stop in the recreation office, pick up an application and sign up for an interview. Any Garden City resident interested in participating in the women's platform tennis league at Garden City Community Park for the 2005-06 season should contact Susan Tarzian at 483-2525 (Tennis Hut). Please leave a message and she will get back to you. This notice is for residents from beginners through advanced who are not presently participating on any of the recreation department's teams. Team captains will contact all current participants if they are needed for this event. Try-outs will be conducted during the week of March 14-21.
