Bill Fix, a wildlife rehabilitator for the U.S. Wildlife Services, will again visit Cluett Hall this year on Sunday, Feb. 13, at 1 p.m. His discussion, "Endangered Species," will use live animals to help children understand the need to protect these creatures. The performance will be geared toward families with children ages 5-12. To reserve a seat, call the recreation office at 465-4075 by Friday, Feb. 11.

The Garden City Recreation Department is sponsoring recreation nights for middle school students on the following dates at St. Paul's Field House:

Sixth-graders Friday, Feb. 11 7-9 p.m.
Sixth-graders Friday, March 4 7-9 p.m.

Recreation staff will chaperone these parties. Admission is $5. A DJ will provide music. Refreshments will be available for a nominal charge. The gym will be open for basketball, volleyball, dancing and other games. Once children are in the facility, they will not be allowed to leave unless accompanied by an adult. Please come into the building to pick up your child.

St. Paul's Field House will be open on Tuesdays from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. for high school students to enjoy playing basketball, volleyball and other gym activities. Students will be supervised but no organized activities will take place. This time is set up for students to enjoy activities with their friends. No organized practices are allowed. The recreation department's tennis ladder match play program is a junior league intraclub program for children ages 9-18. This program offers competitive match play formatted to fit each child's playing level. The league is organized by age and playing ability. Interested children must be able to serve from the baseline, sustain a slow paced rally, keep score unassisted and have an understanding of the rules of tennis.

This program will be minimally supervised during match play. The recreation department's teaching staff will set up the matches. All matches will be held on Sundays between 2 and 4 p.m. If residents choose to participate in this league, the cost of the 10-week program will be $60. There will be no make-ups for this league.
