The Salvation Army wishes to thank the people, organizations and businesses of Nassau County for the successful Red Kettle Campaign of 2004. The goal for Nassau County was $279,000; and although the totals collected by the various organizations are not yet all in, we have gone slightly past the goal. When news that a major national chain department store would not permit our collectors at their accustomed places in front of their stores, other businesses invited us to place our kettles in their establishments. Groups that have traditionally collected for us stayed true and new groups also braved the sometimes inclement weather.
Someone asked me what the "Army" does with the money we raise. I started to recite the list: food, household items, rent, camper-ships, foster care ... He interrupted, "Where does the list stop?" I'm not sure where the list stops, but when it stops will be when the public no longer believes in The Salvation Army and its mission. The Salvation Army succeeded because Nassau County continues to believe in and partner with the "Army" in a mission that we all believe in - helping people. Thanks!
