The newly dedicated scoreboard at Stewart Field.

The Village of Garden City officially unveiled and dedicated a new football scoreboard at Stewart Field Oct. 17 to remember Garden City resident Paul Eckna. Garden City Mayor Barbara Miller, on behalf of the village board of trustees and the community, thanked the Eckna Foundation for the gift she said Garden City youth would enjoy for years to come.

The football field was a second home for Mr. Eckna as he began his love for football as a youngster playing for the Garden City Rams, proudly wearing his number 77.

Garden City Mayor Barbara Miller joins Garden City Athletic Association (GCAA) President Al Vanasco and members of the GCAA Thunder football program to honor Paul Eckna. Paul's brother, Steven, is also pictured.

To demonstrate his athletic ability, professionalism, team spirit and genuine humanistic characteristics, the Garden City varsity football team assigns the number 77 to such a significant individual each year in honor of Mr. Eckna, a bond broker with Cantor Fitzgerald who lost his life September 11, 2001 in the North Tower.
