We have learned that there will be an important proposition to vote on Nov. 2 - the Nassau Open Space, Clean Water Environmental Program. Apparently all 19 Nassau County legislators approved this referendum to put on the ballot so it must mean this will be good for all citizens.

We are going to vote yes for the $50 million bond that will establish a trust fund to protect drinking water, conserve open space, address storm water runoff problems and improve existing parks. The cost to the average household is $7 per year - not a big price to pay if it helps protect a priceless commodity like our drinking water!

It is reassuring to know that a citizens advisory group will monitor the program spending and that it won't get lost in the county's general operating budget. It is critical for us to protect our drinking water and parks. We want to preserve for our children and grandchildren the quality of life we had growing up!
