Levinson Proposes a Better Way to Fund School Districts
During a press conference on Oct. 4, Harvey Levinson, chairman of the Nassau County Board of Assessors, announced a proposal to eliminate the school property tax altogether and replace it with a modest income tax. In addition, the assessor would also like to see a set commercial property school tax rate created throughout the county.

Parents Want Convicted Sex Offender Off the Street
Outraged parents rallied Oct. 14 outside Nassau County District Court in Hempstead, toting signs and demanding civil confinement, a law that would remove sexual predators from the streets and place them into treatment facilities. Many parents from Garden City and New Hyde Park, including those who's sons have been approached and even followed home by convicted sex offender Kevin Cloherty of Garden City, admit they're afraid for their children.

Strikers Strike Three At 19th Annual Paul R. Cody Tourney
The Strikers traveled, on Columbus Day weekend to Windsor, Connecticut to participate in the 19th Annual Paul R. Cody Memorial Soccer Tournament. The large tournament had 21 teams representing Garden City participating in this big event in various divisions.
