The recreation department held registration for its popular Preschool Arts and Crafts classes Tuesday, Oct. 5. This program begins the week of Thursday, Oct. 14 and is open to children ages 3.5 through 5 years old and who reside in Garden City. This eight-week program is offered according to the following schedule:

The recreation department is pleased to announce the start of dedicated senior citizen tennis court time at the Community Park tennis facility. During certain times of the week, courts are designated "senior citizens only." This court time can be booked at a discounted rate of $15 and is available to Garden City senior citizens aged 60 or older.
The following requirements must be met in order to book the court: senior court time may only be booked up to two days ahead; all players on the court must be 60 years or older; and all dedicated court time must be used for play only. No private lessons allowed on these courts.

All senior residents, aged 60 and older, are invited to register for a new exercise class the recreation department is offering. This class, named "Senior Stretch," offers participants a fun way to add flexibility and tone their bodies. Felicia Lovaglio, an adjunct professor with Adelphi University's dance department, teaches this class, which is held on Mondays at 10:30 a.m. in Cluett Hall at St. Paul's. This 13-week program began Oct. 4, for a cost of $100. For further information or to register, visit the recreation office at village hall.
The recreation department is pleased to offer seniors of the village (residents aged 60 and over as of Oct. 2004) their own tennis lesson program on Friday afternoons from 3-4:30 p.m. These lessons are in a "Learn and Play" format and began in five-week sessions Oct. 1. The cost of each five-week session is $100. Registration for this program has begun so visit the recreation office in village hall to register.
The recreation department's Dance Conservatory Program offers village residents the opportunity to get top-of-the-line training in dance at an affordable cost. The Conservatory's director, Felicia Lovaglio, understands that teenagers have many commitments and has tried to make a dance schedule that may better fit the middle to high schooler. The following classes have been added to the schedule and are available to teenagers:

The women's Wednesday night platform tennis league began play Sept. 29. Various levels of play are offered and lessons are included. Beginners are welcome and encouraged to join. Matches are played at the following times: 7 p.m. - advanced players; 8 p.m. - intermediate players; 9 p.m. - beginner players. The fee for this program is $150 per team and includes court time, balls, paddles, instruction and an end-of-the-season awards party.
