'Outside on Franklin' - Fall Concert Mini Series
The Garden City Recreation Department will be sponsoring a new fall concert mini series. Two concerts will take place in front of 1001 Franklin Avenue. These concerts will take place from noon-1:30 p.m. on the following Friday afternoons: Friday, Sept. 10, when The Gary Reynolds Swing Orchestra will perform, and Friday, Sept. 24, when "Time Was" will entertain lunch crowds.

Local Chef To Offer Cooking Demo at Hicks Nurseries
Giuseppe Ruta, the chef/owner of the popular La Bottega Italian Gourmet in Garden City South and La Bottega Wine Bar in Carle Place, is the kick-off chef for Hicks Nurseries' annual Cooking from the Harvest series. On Saturday, Sept. 18, Ruta will be at the Westbury nursery between 11 a.m. and noon demonstrating insalata di riso, a typical seasonal salad with peas, tomatoes, meat and cheese from his native Sicily, plus frittata, the easy-to-prepare Italian omelet.

Strikers Participate in Ref-Fuel Tourney
The Strikers, one of the newer teams in the league, started their second season entering into the Ref-Fuel Tournament. Despite the tough competition from the opposing four teams, the Strikers managed to give their opponents a run for it all. The team only allowed eight goals in all five games and tied in two of the games.

The Garden City Athletic Club, in cooperation with the Greater Long Island Wheelchair Basketball Association, will be sponsoring a Wheelchair Basketball Tournament at the St. Paul's Field House Oct. 1, 2 and 3.
