The recreation department is now forming a roller hockey league for the fall season at Garden City Community Park's roller hockey rinks. This six-week league will play on Fridays beginning Friday, Sept. 17. The league will be open to children ages 7-12 who reside in Garden City. The cost of this program will be $30.
In order to form equal teams, Andrew Karen, program facilitator, will hold several evaluation dates. Any child can come on one of these dates ready to play so Karen can assess his/her skills. Sign ups for the league will also be held during these times:

The recreation department wishes to thank all residents who attended the gazebo concert series on Thursday evenings. The crowds were great, the weather held and the music each night made for enjoyable evenings for all. If anyone has suggestions on how to make the series even better next year, call 465-4075.
The recreation department is sponsoring a trip for seniors to see the Long Island Ducks play the Newark Bears Tuesday, Sept. 14. Game time is 7 p.m. any senior citizen who is a resident of Garden City is invited to attend. The cost of a ticket will be $9.
Seating is limited and bus transportation will be provided. Attendees will be picked up in the village hall parking lot at 5:30 p.m. and driven to Citibank Park in Central Islip to enjoy the game. The bus will then bring everyone back to village hall at the conclusion of the game.

Due to popular demand, the recreation department will again offer an adult pastel class taught by Arleen Ruth Urban. This class is open to adult residents of Garden City. The class will run from 9 a.m. to noon on Fridays beginning Sept. 10. The classes will be held in Cluett Hall at St. Paul's. The cost of the program will be $125.
This 10-week program will teach the beginner as well as advanced student the art of painting portraits and landscapes/still-life in pastels from photographs. Students will be given the option of dividing each three-hour session between portrait or landscape, or they may concentrate solely on the subject of their choice.
Demonstrations will be available as needed throughout the program. Each student will receive the individual attention required to work at his/her own pace and level of expertise.
Arleen Ruth Urban, the instructor for this program, is a signature member of the Pastel Society of America. A winner of numerous awards, her commissioned portraits hang in many Garden City homes. To register for this program, visit the recreation office in village hall.
The recreation department has secured tickets for Sesame Street Live at the Nassau Coliseum. This popular show will take place Sunday, Sept. 12 at 1 p.m. Tickets for this show will cost $17. To purchase tickets, visit the recreation office at village hall. A maximum of six tickets per family will be available for purchase. All tickets must be paid for in cash.
The Garden City Recreation Department operates a "Senior Information Line," which answers questions about activities offered by the department for Garden City residents.
