St. Joseph School Breaks Ground for New Playground
Amid a gaggle of enthusiastic onlookers, St. Joseph School had an official groundbreaking for its new playground Tuesday, Aug. 17. Those present included Father Joseph Schlafer, pastor of St. Joseph Church; Patricia Devine, school principal; Cathy McGuire, chair of the playground project; and Marie Murphy, president of the 2004-05 St. Joseph School board.

GC Athletes Score as Oyster Bay Hosts 17th Annual Vytra-TOBAY Triathlon
A record field of nearly 1,400 athletes gathered at Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park in Oyster Bay Sunday, Aug. 22, for the 17th annual edition of the Vytra-TOBAY Triathlon and Tri-Relay, Long Island's largest multi-sport event. The Tri consists of a 1K swim in Oyster Bay Harbor, a 15K bike ride through Oyster Bay Cove and a 5K run up to the Planting Fields Arboretum and back to the exciting finish at Roosevelt Park.

Recreation Department News
The recreation department is now forming a roller hockey league for the fall season at Garden City Community Park's roller hockey rinks. This six-week league will play on Fridays beginning Friday, Sept. 17. The league will be open to children ages 7-12 who reside in Garden City. The cost of this program will be $30.
