Residents Fed Up, Want Neighbors Evicted
Linda Murray believes her neighbor has a particular disregard for the surrounding community, and, frankly, she's tired of it. "The dilapidated garage has been left for two years and it's now filled with vermin," she said. Rita Lucy feels like she lives in the slums. "I had to put a fence and bushes up this past spring because they stare at me and have even made comments to myself and my piano students," she said. Lucy said she's called the police to register complaints, four times even in one week. "What kind of village is this?" she asked.

Grand Jury Indicts Mineola Male in Deadly Garden City Accident
A grand jury has indicted Omar Syed Afzal, 18, of Mineola, for two counts of manslaughter in the second degree, two counts of vehicular manslaughter in the second degree and one count of driving while impaired by drugs, according to Nassau County District Attorney Denis Dillon.

Recreation Department News
Due to popular demand, the recreation department will again offer an adult pastel class taught by Arleen Ruth Urban. This class is open to adult residents of Garden City. The class will run from 9 a.m. to noon on Fridays beginning Sept. 10. The classes will be held in Cluett Hall at St. Paul's. The cost of the program will be $125.
