Car Into Tree Shuts Down Merillon, Rockaway Avenues
Last Wednesday, Aug. 5, at approximately 5:15 p.m., both the Garden City fire and police departments responded to the intersection of Merillon Avenue and Hampton Road for a reported auto accident with a car fire. The first units to arrive on the scene were Garden City police, upon which they encountered one car into a tree. Police observed the car and determined that the vehicle was not on fire. The driver, however, was trapped inside.

Former Garden City Life Editor Murphy Dies at 82
Eileen Murphy, former editor of Garden City Life, died at her daughter, Donna O'Brien's home in Garden City Wednesday, Aug. 4. She was 82 years old. A resident of Garden City for most of her life, she was one of its loyalists who made a career of fighting for what she believed was best for the village she loved.

Recreation Department News
Due to popular demand, the recreation department will again offer an adult pastel class taught by Arleen Ruth Urban. This class is open to adult residents of Garden City. The class will run from 9 a.m. to noon on Fridays beginning Sept. 10. The classes will be held in Cluett Hall at St. Paul's. The cost of the program will be $125.
