Are the children looking for something to do this summer? The recreation department's summer parks program is the answer. Each park runs a free summer program for residents with arts and crafts, games, sports and trips. This program is geared for children in first through eighth grades. Activities vary according to the number of children in the park and the ages of the children. This program is available to all resident children until Aug. 20. The recreation department sponsors a Senior Program Line, which answers questions about activities for seniors and refers questions about services to the appropriate agency. Please call 465-4190 to reach the Senior Program Line.

All Garden City senior citizens are invited to enjoy the morning at the Garden City Pool Monday, Aug. 16. The pool will open at 11 a.m. for seniors only and admission to the pool will be free. Proof of residency will be required. The Paul Cuneo Trio will perform in the picnic area beginning at 11 a.m. In addition, the snack bar will discount prices 50 percent between 11 a.m. and noon for all seniors in attendance.

If anyone needs transportation to the event, call the Recreation Office at 465-4076 by Wednesday, Aug. 11.

The recreation department's summer chess club began meeting Tuesday, July 13 in the small meeting room at the Garden City Library. The club will run each Tuesday from 4-6 p.m. through Aug. 17. Paul Dooher will moderate this program, which is geared for third through seventh graders. No registration is needed, please just show up at the library meeting room downstairs at the assigned time. The following summer programs are run for adults who reside in Garden City. These programs are free but residency will be checked. The schedule is as follows:

The Garden City Recreation Department's Dance Program for September is quickly filling up. Director Felicia Lovaglio and her staff have planned an exciting program for your children's enjoyment. Please visit the recreation office in village hall for details about the dance class schedule or to register for a class.

The Garden City Recreation Department presents Summer Music on the Village Green 2004 Thursdays at 7:15 p.m. Residents are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets. The musical lineup is as follows:

August 19 Blue Heron Entertainment

In the event of rain, all shows will be held indoors at the Cultural & Performing Arts Center at Cluett Hall. Due to space limitations at the indoor facility, proof of Garden City residency will be required.

The recreation department will hold a pre-school camp for Garden City children aged 3.5-5 years old this summer. Pat Haas Leonenko will again run this very popular camp.

The pre-school camp will be held in Cluett Hall at St. Paul's from 10:30 a.m. to noon during the following summer weeks:

Session 2		July 19-23
Session 3		July 26-30
Session 4		August 2-6
Session 5		August 9-13

The cost of this program is $75 per session. Children must be 3.5 years old by the start of the session in order to register. A copy of the child's birth certificate must accompany registration.

To register by mail, (walk-in registrations are now being accepted), pick up an application at the recreation office in village hall or at St. Paul's. Residents can also make their own by listing their child's name, address, phone number, birth date, grade he/she will be entering in September and the session they are registering for. Mail all information with payment to the recreation department, located at 351 Stewart Avenue. Please make checks payable to the Incorporated Village of Garden City. The recreation department cannot be held responsible for delays in the mail. Please make your selection carefully, as fees are not returnable.
