LIRR Construction Projects Affect Neighborhood
Since the week of June 21 the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) has been performing several major construction projects, as part of an 11-week program ending Sept. 6. The summer program includes the renovation of track, signals and switches at a major switching point near Queens Village as well as track renovations between Bayside and Great Neck.

Affordable Housing Bill Pending in Senate
While Garden City trustees pondered zoning changes for the Public Use "P" Zone property located at 101 County Seat Drive, many neighbors feared legislation that would require local municipalities, like the Village of Garden City, to enact affordable housing laws. The bill, known as the Long Island Workforce Housing Incentive Program Act, unanimously passed the Assembly and is currently pending in the Senate.

Recreation Department News
Are the children looking for something to do this summer? The recreation department's summer parks program is the answer. Each park runs a free summer program for residents with arts and crafts, games, sports and trips. This program is geared for children in first through eighth grades. Activities vary according to the number of children in the park and the ages of the children. This program is available to all resident children until Aug. 20.
